International Airport
welcomed 47.4 million
arriving and departing
passengers last year,
making 2016 the
second-busiest year in
the airport’s 68-year
history. Extending
the recent trend of
increases for a sixth
consecutive year, the 2016 total marked a
4.5 percent upturn from 2015.
The numbers at McCarran were not
the only ones taking off. The Las Vegas
Convention and Visitors Authority
reported that for a third consecutive year,
Las Vegas continued historic visitation
growth, setting a new all-time record. In
2016 the “Entertainment Capital of the
World” welcomed 42.9 million visitors,
surpassing the previous year’s 42.3 million.
In addition to hosting millions of leisure
travelers, Las Vegas celebrated record-
breaking convention visitation in 2016 by
welcoming more than 6.3 million business
travelers who contributed to the overall
increase in visitor traffic. International
tourism accounted for approximately 19
percent of visitation, up from 16 percent
in 2015, while roughly one-third of
domestic visitors came from California. A
greater number of visitors traveled to the
destination by air this year (46 percent)
compared to 43 percent last year.
